Our Learning
Autumn walk- testing our sense of sight

Year 1 went for a walk around our school grounds as part of their science learning.
We have been learning all about our senses and have already explored our sense of smell through a sniff pot experiment and our sense of taste by tasting and describing different flavoured crisps. Today, it was all about sight!
After discussing how important our sense of sight is, we headed outside to explore the school grounds and look for signs of autumn. The children carefully observed their surroundings and ticked off everything they spotted on their autumn record sheets.
Back on the playground, the children were then given the opportunity to experience what it might be like without our sense of sight. Those who wanted to took part in a blindfold activity and quickly realised just how important our other senses become. They had to listen very carefully and use their sense of touch by putting their arms out to feel for anything that might be in their way.
A fantastic lesson of exploring, investigating and learning through first-hand experiences!
Year 1 love the laptops!

Year 1 have enjoyed learning about laptops. They have been navigating programs using the mouse and tracking pad. They have learnt how to click and drag as well as how to type on the keyboard.
Art Day

We looked at the artist Mark Rothko. He was an abstract artist who used blocks of colour to emote feeling and emotions out of people who look at his art.
The children looked at some of his paintings and decided how it made them feel. They used a highlighter to select the emotion.
They then chose their favourite painting and had the opportunity to recreate it themselves.
Mrs Kavanagh, who leads art at Miers Court asked for three paintings that impressed us, and one of these from each class will be displayed in the hall once the hall has been decorated over half term.
Banksy

We are so proud of this amazing artwork the children have completed. They have learnt all about Banksy and street art. The children have learnt so many new skills, including designing a basic stencil, printing a brick wall pattern, to cutting from the inside to create a stencil, and finally bringing everything together to create our own London-inspired street art! Well done!
